100-Year-Old Guitar Gets A Fret Fix

Guitar Man Joe stopped by the shop this week with a vintage gem in a vintage chipboard case: a Lyon & Healy Marquette, a groovy parlor-sized guitar that is more than 100 years old!

Fretful Fret

Joe estimated this guitar was built between 1890 and 1920. Despite its age, this guitar was in amazing shape. The 8th fret was loose and buzzing, but a carefully placed drop of super glue fixed it right up.

A Century Of Music

Cleaned-up and re-strung, this Marquette sounds amazingly mellow. Playing its chunky triangular neck feels like holding 100 years of music history in your hands! Listen to that vintage tone—recorded with a Shure SM-58 microphone positioned six-inches from the sound hole—on the tracks below!
