IYG Tackles A Classical Guitar Restring

Roc and I recently had the opportunity to set up and restring a classical guitar, a first for us.

Iris Is Ready To Rock

The guitar belonged to a lady named Iris, who said the nylon-string Stagg acoustic belong to her daughter, Denise. (Denise’s name was written in black magic marker not the back of the guitar.) Denise never learned to play, but mom was ready to take lessons and jam out!

Classical Guitar Restring — Feeling Like A Sailor

We picked up a pack of D’Addario classical guitar strings at Sam Ash and watched a couple of YouTube videos to figure out the best way to string a classical guitar. I felt like a sailor — so many wacky knots and windings! But this classical guitar restring turned out pretty well for a first effort!

Stagg Sound Check

The revived Stagg sounded great…check it out on the tracks below. You’ll hear my wife and daughter screaming at the television in the background. (Go Purdue Boilermakers!) You’ll also hear the Black Knight on bass on a couple of tracks.

Classical Inspiration

In fact, we were so inspired by this nylon string, we decided to pick up a classical guitar of our own. This Washburn C5CE should be delivered this week! (Shh, Roc! Don’t tell Mom we bought another guitar!)

FYI — We charged Iris $20 to restring her guitar, and the D’Addario’s cost us $7.50. Roc and I may be the worst — but most honest — businessmen ever!
